Unanym

Identity and membership across community websites. Release candidate.

Unanym identity service website — release candidate

The problem

Independently run community websites often need to recognise the same members. Separate approval lists mean more work for organisers and more accounts for members to keep track of.

What Unanym does

Unanym provides sign-in, community approvals and a separate sharing choice for each website. Members can choose a different name and decide which memberships to share. Each website keeps its own account and admission rules.

Design and implementation

  • Make the sharing choice visible before information is sent to a website.

  • Let independent websites recognise an existing community approval.

  • Check current membership when a protected page is visited; an approval can end.

  • Keep account management and changes to sharing available to the member.

Current stage

Unanym is a release candidate, available for pilot evaluation. WordPress is the tested integration. Independent security review and real-member acceptance remain open.

The identity service is run by an operator that holds the records and keys. It is not a self-custodied wallet.
